Henry Dallimore found true love in Pottsville, Pennsylvania and emigrated there last year.

These are his messages back to Shorelink Community Writers.

Henry's First Message

I am quite elderly really I suppose (72 to be exact) and have recently emigrated to Pennsylvania and got married in June this year. I shall be sending "Letters from America" from time to time (in memory of Alistair Cooke), but we have been having a nice summer and fall and I have not got into the rhythm of sitting at the computer and writing. I joined Shorelink in the summer of '03 and write both prose and poetry, I started on my first novel in January 2000 but all I have written is the prologue and first paragraph of chapter one! So I doubt if it will ever get completed. My interests are railways together with most forms of transportation, digital photography and video making (no not that sort Missus!!). Since coming to America I have become a volunteer at our local library giving lessons in computer basics, digital photography and video.

SNOW PIX FEB 10/21 2010

Using the old adage that a picture is worth a thousand words, here are some pix of the record breaking snowstorm we had earlier this month.

1) Taken at 9pm on Feb10th just after the snow finished, there had been 4 or 5 visits by the snowplough but no salting.

I sent this to the local TV station entitled “A romantic walk in the snow”. It got broadcast during the mid morning

forecast on the 11th - so I’m told, I didn’t get to see the transmission!

2) The back garden on the 11th

3) After I dug it out to the garage

4) From across the road

5) At the time, ours was the biggest pile by far!

6) The garage access - we weren’t planning on going anywhere!

7) After we had decided that we’d keep it for next Christmas, the City came and cleared it presumably as it was on a school bus stop

Until next time.

ADDENDUM TO #24

Just to finally put all these snow photos to bed, here is a pic of the open air pool parking lot, this is where the City is puttting all the snow they have collected.

We had another lot on Thursday - not so bad as last time - only about 5 inches, but took yet another shovelling session.

I have to say the novelty of a snowy winter has well and truly worn off!! Three weeks and one day to the first day of Spring. Yippeeeeeeeeee!

Until next time

ps Also a sad face on my neighbour's vehicle. This has also been sent to the local TV station - we wait with baited breath!!
