SCW is a community writing and publishing organisation which is open to all, but particularly welcomes people who need to develop confidence in expressing themselves. The membership is spread across several groups in order to give a choice of time and place to all who wish to participate.
We encourage members to find their own voice and experiment with new writing methods and styles. We aim to provide a safe and supportive environment, which enables members to build their social skills, confidence and self-esteem, thereby promoting personal development. All members are encouraged to be actively involved in the running of SCW. As well as the regular group meetings, SCW holds regular social events to which all groups are invited. This is both to promote friendship across the groups, and to prevent the polarization of the separate groups who come under the umbrella of SCW.
Activities
We
have three groups (see below) which meet weekly and we also have occasional
workshops run by well-known authors. In addition we arrange visits to
the annual Federation of Worker
writers & Community
publishers (now The Fed) festival.
In 2004 and 2006 we staged our own free mini-fests (see a bit farther below).
Shorelink Quiz Evening
We are celebrating the coming of Spring(nearly) by holding a quiz evening at The Arthur Easton Room, St Michael's Hospice on February 27th 2010. For more information click here

By the way, Jan Hedger and Roland Gardner have both had poems published in"Voices of the Poppies", which was released by FLOW in 2008.
Jan is also publishing a collection of her poetry entitled "On Calico Wings".

POW Celebrates OneYear Anniversary
Here is a copy of Henry Dallimore's local paper showing and article they published about the writing group he established one year ago on the 10th January 2009.

SHORELINK CELEBRATION EVENING!
It was a great success, well attended, and enjoyed by all who were at The Phoenix Arts Centre that evening. The Bluebell Ridge Cat Rehoming Centre stall did especially well. Shorelink raised £200 for Bluebell Ridge. Although Bluebell Ridge is under the umbrella of The RSPCA, it has to find it's own funding and needs your contributions to pay for it's up-keep.
To find out more about the great work Bluebell Ridge does, Click on the logo below

Shorelink Short Story Competition
The competition is over and the judges have been hard at work sifting through the considerable number of entries trying to decide the winner. And their decision...
The winner of our Short Story Competition is:
Stephanie Morris!
Unfortunately Stephanie coudn't be at our Summer Garden Party on the 18th July 2009 to receive her prize, but she was presented with her cheque for £50 and a framed certificate the following evening.

A New Spotlight!
Yes, we have produced a new spotlight page to educate, amuse, and delight (though not necessarily in that order, or even at all!) our readers, as opposed to those who just like to look at the pictures...
These are communications from Henry Dallimore, an expat Shorelinker who met, married, and went to live with Joannie, an American person. They live in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, USA. Henry's letters show the USA in a uniqely British light and also chronicle Henry's efforts to make sense of this
strange foreign land with its peculiar customs and odd culture. There are now sixteen letters from Henry to read, so why not snuggle down (if you've got a laptop, that is) with a cup of tea/coffee and discover what every-day living is like "across the pond". Fascinating and at the same time oddly reassuring.
Here is the Shorelink Community Writers Christmas Panto for 2009.
If you missed 2008's Panto, don't despair, you can find a copy of it here (Yes, I know it doesn't rhyme, but it's the best I can do)
Along with another copy of this years effort. (I've given up completely now).

ANTHOLOGY PROJECT REVAMPED
We have now agreed on a revised format for the Shorelink Anthology. It will consist of pieces culled from previous magazines published by Shorelink and will be published in book format. Further details to be announced as the are decided. Our apologies to the contributors who sent in pieces for inclusion in the original format. We haven't forgotten, we've just been rather busy with other things. The Anthology willbe one of our top priorities for 2010.

Jan's Creative Writing
Shorelinker Jan Hedger has her own website called Jan's Creative Writing. If you are interested in Poetry or Short Stories, this site is well worth a visit.
Jan also has a new book in the offing. It's going to be titled "On Calico Wings" and she's aiming to publish it in March 2010.
NEW FED MINI-FEST
A One Day Event of Reading, Writing and Performance-Related Workshops, and a Celebratory Reading, took place at Faraday House, Holborn, London, on
Saturday November 21st 2009. BY all accounts it was a great success again and we all look forward to it this year.
